A quick scenario… You may have graduated from college and began working out of school in your first professional job only to find that the real world of work is less fulfilling than your studies were. Regardless, out of school you were making more money than you ever had before. Now you are able to support yourself and your spouse, or whatever your situation is, and have begun to pay back those student loans. From that first job you learned a lot. You got your foot in the door within a particular industry, and as you outgrew that entry-level job you built upon your experience to move on to a better paying position, perhaps in the same industry and possibly at another company. This goes on for a few years and then at some point you realize that you’ve gotten off the path to the original goals and dreams you had while in college. This is often when many individuals decide a larger change is in order, but what kind of change? Maybe you recall those dreams you had upon graduation, but now you’re not sure how to get there, or you just feel lost without a sense of personal and/or professional direction. You’re not alone, it’s completely normal. So what does it mean? It may just mean you haven’t yet found work that is truly in line with your strengths, passions and sense of purpose. GrowLoop wants to help you discover what you need to take action toward a positive transition in your life. That could be to embrace the entrepreneur in you, to transition from your current job into one that is more fulfilling and in line with your true self, or it could be that you simply want to take action toward becoming better in your current role. Here’s a look at the idea of GrowLoop… There are things in your life that you can control, like your attitude, the people you choose to associate with, your health habits and the like. Beyond what you can control there are things in your life that you have less control over, but can influence, like the way you are perceived by others by how you interact with them. Here’s a diagram to help visualize your loop of control and your loop of influence: Now, your friends and coworkers and others you encounter in your life have the ability to control and influence certain things as well. For example, a friend with a bad attitude can have a negative influence on you. However, you can control whether or not it will affect you negatively. The concept of GrowLoop is that as you make positive changes in your attitude and life by achieving the goals you set for yourself you’re taking control of those things you can control and thus offering positive influence to those things outside of your control. What inevitably ends up happening is you begin to pay forward your positive choices by offering positive influence to others. The result is you grow and within your relationships your loop of positive influence grows as well. See the diagram: So when you take action to align yourself with your strengths, passion and purpose to transition toward a positive change in your personal and/or professional life you’ll find what goes around will come around. The positive energy you control and influence will find a way to circle back to you with self-confidence, opportunities and your right livelihood.
