Here are my top 3 trends for digital marketing in 2014:
Mobile is mainstream Mobile is mainstream, but is mobile mainstream for you? These days the use of tablet devices and smartphones is ubiquitous. If your website and digital marketing strategy is not mobile-friendly you are behind, and missing out on leads and opportunities to connect and build the relationships that will grow your business. Small content Concise, succinct, relevant content...smaller, yet more impactful chunks of useful content for your on-the-go-mobile-using target audience is more likely be consumed than coming out of the gate with longer form content -- you have a shorter attention span to work with toward initiating and building a meaningful relationship. Once a bit further along it's easier to introduce longer form content (i.e. a longer blog post or email newsletter). Scaling the human touch With all the marketing automation emails and tweet scheduling that most utilize to execute message distribution, finding the balance and the right timing to insert real-time human engagement -- not necessarily long-winded engagement -- but significant interactions that build trust and credibility that there is a real person behind the electronic messages that appear at all hours of the day and night. Because mobile devices are mainstream, they can become the secret weapon to scaling the human touch in your marketing efforts. It's easy enough to tweet a short reply, snap and send an Instagram photo or invite a new LinkedIn connection to a 20 minute introductory-getting-to-know-you phone call.
